Black-Owned Accommodations

The best part of vacationing in Barbados is awakening to these scenic views. Whether you’re staying on the platinum west coast or the other favored coast, the south, there are ample options for beautifully constructed, modern, and spacious accommodations. Many would assume it’d be easy to locate Black-owned establishments on a predominantly Black island, but it’s not as easy as one would hope, so we’ve got you covered! Here are 7 of the best Black-owned hotels, lodges, and vacation rentals on the island.

THE SOCO HOTEL

This boutique hotel is located in the heart of Barbados’ south coast, with a 10-minute drive from Bridgetown and a short walk to Hastings Road and St. Lawrence Gap, two areas that feature a sample of the island’s best restaurants and nightlife. The property is inclusive of dining and in-room spa services. It also overlooks a beautiful, secluded beach with a boardwalk. This modern and chic location is an adult-only hotel where visitors know the staff by name. The highlight for many seems to be the friendly staff, who offer a sense of warmth, making each interaction feel personalized to their guests. With only 24 rooms, The Soco Hotel is an excellent location for a quiet and relaxing getaway.

LA MAISON MICHELLE

The West Coast of Barbados is often referred to as the “Platinum Coast” because it’s where travelers can find all things luxury, including accommodations. La Maison Michelle is a five-star, seven-suite villa with indoor and outdoor living spaces and panoramic views. Owned by husband and wife Guy and Michelle Jenkins, this accommodation is perfect for relaxing getaways and work retreats. It comes with chef services, security, a laundress, a pool attendant and a driver. There’s also a climate-controlled fitness center, a garden, an infinity pool, and a spa with custom packages and massages overlooking the sea.

THE TEAL DOOR

If you’re looking for accommodations that capture the local experience, this Black-owned vacation rental fits the bill. The Teal Door is a quaint Airbnb with a bright and colorful palette, high wooden ceilings and an incredibly thoughtful interior design.

This home is fully renovated with smart TVs, coffee machine, bluetooth speaker and a hammock for the bedroom porch. Located within a quiet neighborhood of local Bajans, The Teal Door is also just minutes away from Oistins Fish Market. Owner and host Chamille welcomes all.

INFINITY ON THE BEACH

For a beachfront location in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap’s bustling dining and entertainment district, Infinity On The Beach is the perfect match of convenience and affordability. It has indoor/outdoor dining spaces and balconied rooms overlooking the sea. Its beach bar is nestled within one of two outdoor pools and offers a variety of enticing local and international dishes. The bar also serves cocktails and plays great music. Additionally, guests can receive spa treatments in their room or at the spa.

HIDDEN GEM BED & BREAKFAST

Hidden Gem Bed & Breakfast is tucked away in the Inch Marlow section of Christ Church and is designed to feel like a true home away from home. The villa has an Olympic-sized pool, outdoor and indoor dining areas, common areas, a laundry room, a large covered deck with an ocean view, a rotating breakfast menu,  chef services, and a housekeeper. It’s perfect for those looking to escape denser tourist locations and maintain easy transportation access. Hidden Gem’s owner, Ann-Marie, says the focus is to create an “intimate guest experience while featuring top-notch customer service and amenities.”

PROVIDENCE ESTATE

Providence Estate is a fully enclosed modern Airbnb surrounded by lush trees and flowers, making it the epitome of relaxation. It’s central to the South Coast’s main attractions, beaches, restaurants, and airport. The back deck, pool, and garden are fully enclosed for privacy, and this 3-level accommodation features 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, an open floor level, a spacious, fully equipped kitchen, a living room and a dining room. According to most guests, the main highlight is the customer service and property manager, Danielle, who “is thoughtful and goes above and beyond to ensure that we have everything we need.” Chef services, massage services and drivers are also available.

THE ROYAL BLISS BARBADOS

The Royal Bliss Barbados is a boutique hotel with a contemporary condo feel. It has two beach bars, and each room comes with a terrace, rainfall showerheads, pillowtop beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, and non-obstructed ocean views. It’s a stone’s throw away from the nightlife, restaurants, sports bars, shops, and beach bars of St. Lawrence Gap. As a beachfront location, guests can exit the hotel and instantly be on the beach, ready to enjoy the Caribbean Sea and an assortment of water excursions.
