Fort Worth has a special connection to this day through Opal Lee, known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” who has led 2.5-mile walks symbolizing the delay in the emancipation news reaching Texas. Fort Worth celebrates this significant day with various events, and the city is also set to be home to the National Juneteenth Museum​.
